athletic department forms

Thanks to Nicole Yohn for organizing the athletic department forms for each of the girls trying out for tennis !! The girls came by my room last week and should have a set of forms that we will need to have completed. There is an instruction sheet in their set regarding the Star Sportsmanship on line course. I took this test, as well !! It may take an hour or two to complete, however. I would like to have forms back during the week of February 7 (tryout week). If you need a physical and will need extra time to schedule, then just let me know. I am looking forward to getting our group together on Monday, February 7 !! Remember to wear layers in case we have some cold days. A snack and water bottle will also be important. I will have a water cooler, but I would like to encourage the girls to bring a bottle that they can refill.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding the forms sent home.

Pre-tryout information !

I am excited about coaching your girls on the Tennis court! I have played tennis since I was young and continue to enjoy playing. I don’t think that I was put in this position by accident and have my faith in Christ that we are going to learn and grow this season. I wanted to give you a schedule and format for JV Girls Tennis tryouts. I am very lucky to have former Coach Bowden to guide me through this process.

Tryouts will be conducted as follows: we will play a round robin tournament (each player will play all other players) to determine player positions. I would like to have a two day clinic prior to the beginning of our tournament for practice.

Clinic days will be: Monday, February 7 and Tuesday, February 8

Round Robin Tournament will begin: Wednesday, February 9, Thursday, February 10 and Friday, February 11. Please keep Saturday, February 12 9:15-11:15 and 2:00-4:00.

We will play from 3:45 – 5:00 for both clinic and tournament rounds. Girls are to be on the courts ready to play by 3:45, this allows 30 minutes to change, get a snack, and arrive at the courts and begin stretching.

The girls will play a mini-match (the best of 7 games). If the score becomes 3-3 a tiebreaker will be played. At any point when a girl no longer has a chance to make the top 10, even if she wins the rest of the matches, she will be eliminated. On the same token, any girl who will make the team regardless if she loses the remaining matches will be on the team but she will not have to complete the remaining matches. I know that everyone’s time and effort is limited as is our facility / courts. If two players are tied for the 10th spot, the player who won head to head will get the position. If three or more players are tied for the 10th spot, the player with the highest winning percentage of match scores will earn the 10th slot.

In the past, it has been requested that parents do not come to watch the round robin tournament. We are still adhering to this same policy. Some girls will be more nervous if you are there, some will do better, and some won’t be able to have a parent there. In order to keep tryouts and the tournament as fair as possible, I am asking that you do not pull your car up to the courts until the time I dismiss the girls. I thank you ahead of time for your consideration and support for these girls.

In case of inclement weather, we will make adjustments as we go.
