Uniform size charts!

nike size chart

2012

Tennis Practice begins the week of January 16 3:25 - 5:00!!
It should be a cold beginning to our season so plan accordingly !!

I sent home uniform list in our meeting on Friday. Links are below for Nike, Holloway and Addidas size charts. The warm up is optional. We are using the same dress and skirt as last year. Previous players will only need to purchase new skirt and dress if they need a different size or want a new uniform. Players will need to purchase their own bloomers for the dress. We are going to get a white top this year. I am still working on finding a supplier for the top that some of the 10th grade girls selected for our team. We will get something similar if we are not able to get the exact top. The girls are working on a t-shirt design! Athletic department and myself will approve.

Please turn in your athletic forms that I sent home prior to tryouts if you have not already turned in!
We will have a parent meeting in January to sign up to drive to away matches, snacks / drinks for matches and drivers for our Montgomery Country Club clinics.
The clinics are $28 for the 2 hour session. We usually try to go for around 8 -10 sessions. We will bill these monthly this session vs. the lump sum amount. Uniform fees will be billed on the January bill.

Prattville Christian Academy is hosting a tournament at Lagoon Park on Saturday, December 17. I sent home information regarding this tournament on Friday, as well. I will be out of town celebrating Christmas with my family in Georgia, but I would love anyone to participate that is able.

Regarding challenge matches: please remind girls that they will play the player below their position first. Once they have defeated this player, they will move up the ladder and play the player above their position. They need to give the player 2 days notice prior to play. This is the same way that our Varsity Girls play their challenge matches. Current player positions were based on the won/loss record during tryouts. We went through the entire bracket so that all girls were given the opportunity to play one another. Players are allowed to play after practice, clinic and on weekends and during a practice only if they schedule it with me prior to that day.

Looking forward to a great week of tennis !! Go Wildcats !!

girls tennis bags / racquets

The front office has asked that we find another area to store the girls tennis bags. They are welcome to leave them in my classroom. We asked the athletic department for any extra lockers, but there are none available. The cheer room may be available, but let me check with Vicki. For now, please remind them to bring their bags to my room on their way to their lockers each morning. Thanks !!

parent meeting

Parents ! Let's get together to sign up for transportation to MCC clinic, out of town matches, and snacks / drinks for matches ! I can answer any other questions you may have, as well.
Beth Godwin has agreed to coordinate snacks and drinks.
Tracie Elrod will head up transportation ! Thanks to these moms for helping me coordinate !!
We will have sign up sheets at our meeting so bring your calendars.

Parent Meeting:
Date: Friday, Feb. 25
Time: 4:30-5:00
Place: Trinity Boardroom (2 doors down from my classroom 308).
I will put a sign outside the door. I will have the girls meet in the choir room adjacent to us. They will decide on their team verse.

Team Uniforms: 1st match and team pictures on Thursday, Feb. 24. I have a back-up plan if our uniforms are not here. (Last year's uniform / borrow from last year's jv players). I am trying to round them all up before Tuesday. Any returning players from last year: please locate your uniform and make sure it fits. I can let you borrow one from a past player if you have outgrown your uniform. Please bring me your uniform if you will need to borrow another uniform. Someone else may be able to borrow from you!

I will announce our line up for the St. James match on Wednesday. We will play 6 singles matches and 3 doubles matches. The format is usually an 8 game pro-set, but we may have to revise number of games based on daylight. The St. James coach and myself will make that determination prior to play. Beth Godwin is bringing snacks and drinks for our 1st match.

Parents, you may want to bring a chair to sit in on Thursday and, of course, good sportsmanship and a supportive attitude for all of these girls !!
In Christ,
Jennifer

eligibility forms, uniforms, revised calendar

I need to get the following forms ASAP for eligibility!
Christina Hogan: birth certificate (I need this by Friday, Feb. 18). I also need her Star Sportsmanship certificate and yellow card.
Francie Hogan: the Insurance, HPA and waiver forms
Mori Wallace: Star Sportsmanship certificate, yellow card
Paige Lewis: Physical, Star Sportsmanship certificate, Insurance, HPA and waiver forms, yellow card

I sent home uniform order form today. We were not able to order uniforms until we officially had our team. We need to get these ordered tomorrow, if possible. Nicole Yohn needs our team picture in before the end of February. Robertson Photography told me that they can take our picture next Thursday and still get it in for the Spring Sports Annual. We will take our picture before our first match against St. James (in our new uniforms that we hope will be here!) We will cross the uniform "bridge" if our uniforms do not come in. It is very important that the girls return their forms tomorrow, however !!
Trinity School bills the parents for the Spirit Packs (uniforms) and the MCC Tennis Clinics directly.

The girls can now begin to report to Study Hall !
I will send home a revised calendar with all the MCC Clinic sessions and revised M.A. Away match. We did reschedule the Tues. match from next week to April and added to more April clinics. We are also trying to plan a weekend trip in April. The girls have always loved this trip and we will try to plan something fun !!

Congratulations to the 2011 JV Girls Tennis Team:
Tori Chancellor
Madison Elrod
Savannah Elrod
Mori Wallace
Mary Kate Godwin
Christina Hogan
Francie Hogan
Paige Lewis
Parker Reynolds
Mollie Beth Dill

I am giving the girls a registration form for the USTA Southern Alabama MCC Junior Classic Tennis Tournament February 25-27 in Montgomery. I would love to see all 10 of our girls play in this ! What great experience !!
Last, make sure your girls have a good pair of "tennis" shoes not running shoes. It is very important that they are playing in the proper attire. They will also need a racer back bra to wear with both our uniforms (no bra straps showing please) : )
They will also need a jump rope for practice beginning Monday. I can keep them in the storage room during the season and return when we are through.
We do have practice tomorrow until 5:00. We will be practicing with our doubles teams for our match next Thursday !!
We are loving this weather and I am loving your girls ! We are going to have a great season !!

tryouts

We should be able to complete all of our matches for our round robin tournament tomorrow. We will be able to determine our top 10 players for our team ! All of the girls have done a great job, shown hard work and encouragement to each other. I could not be more proud of them all. The tournament will not only determine the top 10, but will also rank the players for position. I will let the girls know the outcome of the tournament tomorrow at the end of practice. I will announce their rank at practice on Thursday. We will be going to our first clinic at Montgomery Country Club on Thursday. I have arranged 2 parent drivers to pick the girls up in carpool and transport our team. Clinic begins at 3:30 and ends at 5:30. Each parent will be responsible for arranging for their child to be picked up at the Country Club at 5:30. I will make sure that all the girls are accounted for before I leave.
I want to encourage those girls who do not make our team this year not to give up ! I already love each of these girls and want to make the best decisions for our team and development. Keep practicing and taking lessons ! Tennis is a wonderful game to set goals, work hard, and most of all have fun. I hope this is just the first step towards a life long love of the game for all of these girls !

round robin tournament

Our tournament is underway !! Most girls were able to play 3 matches today. We revised the format to best 3 of 5 games with a tie break at 2 all, if needed. This should make the play progress quickly. We will play on Saturday and it should be a beautiful day to get some good tennis in. I have heard from several girls that they will not be able to attend the entire day. If you could email me the times that your child should be able to attend. I know there is an ACT being given, but I am not sure what time the students will be able to attend tryouts.
I have heard from Christina Hogan, Josey Aughtman, Mollie Beth Dill for ACT. Paige Lewis may not be able to attend, Abbie Grace Sims has basketball game. Let me know times and I will schedule the games accordingly.
We may still need a few days next week to play before we can determine the top players for our team.
Thursday and Friday sound like cold days and the courts may be wet tomorrow. We will still practice until 5:00 both days. We will meet in room 302 if the courts are unplayable tomorrow. I will have office make an announcement for the girls during 7th period as to where to report.
Thanks ! Jennifer

tryout week(s)

Well 80% chance of rain on the first day of tryouts, but we will not be defeated !! We may, however, not get to practice on the courts. I will make an announcement during the day to let the girls know where to meet at 3:30. (I need to confirm that the PTO/boardroom is available?) We will discuss the tryout format, look at uniform options, season schedule and talk through some of the rules and strategies of tennis.
The YMCA good times program is in my classroom after school, so my room is not going to be a good place to meet. The girls will come back down to my room to be picked up, however. My classroom is 308 in the lower section of Middle School carpool line. Easy enough !!
Feel free to call or text my cell phone if you ever need to reach me during any of our practices.

athletic department forms

Thanks to Nicole Yohn for organizing the athletic department forms for each of the girls trying out for tennis !! The girls came by my room last week and should have a set of forms that we will need to have completed. There is an instruction sheet in their set regarding the Star Sportsmanship on line course. I took this test, as well !! It may take an hour or two to complete, however. I would like to have forms back during the week of February 7 (tryout week). If you need a physical and will need extra time to schedule, then just let me know. I am looking forward to getting our group together on Monday, February 7 !! Remember to wear layers in case we have some cold days. A snack and water bottle will also be important. I will have a water cooler, but I would like to encourage the girls to bring a bottle that they can refill.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding the forms sent home.

Pre-tryout information !

I am excited about coaching your girls on the Tennis court! I have played tennis since I was young and continue to enjoy playing. I don’t think that I was put in this position by accident and have my faith in Christ that we are going to learn and grow this season. I wanted to give you a schedule and format for JV Girls Tennis tryouts. I am very lucky to have former Coach Bowden to guide me through this process.

Tryouts will be conducted as follows: we will play a round robin tournament (each player will play all other players) to determine player positions. I would like to have a two day clinic prior to the beginning of our tournament for practice.

Clinic days will be: Monday, February 7 and Tuesday, February 8

Round Robin Tournament will begin: Wednesday, February 9, Thursday, February 10 and Friday, February 11. Please keep Saturday, February 12 9:15-11:15 and 2:00-4:00.

We will play from 3:45 – 5:00 for both clinic and tournament rounds. Girls are to be on the courts ready to play by 3:45, this allows 30 minutes to change, get a snack, and arrive at the courts and begin stretching.

The girls will play a mini-match (the best of 7 games). If the score becomes 3-3 a tiebreaker will be played. At any point when a girl no longer has a chance to make the top 10, even if she wins the rest of the matches, she will be eliminated. On the same token, any girl who will make the team regardless if she loses the remaining matches will be on the team but she will not have to complete the remaining matches. I know that everyone’s time and effort is limited as is our facility / courts. If two players are tied for the 10th spot, the player who won head to head will get the position. If three or more players are tied for the 10th spot, the player with the highest winning percentage of match scores will earn the 10th slot.

In the past, it has been requested that parents do not come to watch the round robin tournament. We are still adhering to this same policy. Some girls will be more nervous if you are there, some will do better, and some won’t be able to have a parent there. In order to keep tryouts and the tournament as fair as possible, I am asking that you do not pull your car up to the courts until the time I dismiss the girls. I thank you ahead of time for your consideration and support for these girls.

In case of inclement weather, we will make adjustments as we go.
